Bella Ramsey: You don’t have to watch The Last of Us series

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Bella Ramsey, the star of the television adaptation of the video game The Last of Us, advised viewers who dislike the show not to watch its third season. Ramsey reprises her role as Ellie in the second season of the series, which received multiple Emmy nominations.
Many viewers of the show and fans of the video game expressed dissatisfaction with the second season, reacting negatively to the brutal killing of one character and the depiction of Ellie’s same-sex relationship with Dina, played by Isabela Merced.
In an interview with the Awardist podcast, Ramsey said she has tried to stay “as far removed as possible” from the backlash: “Because there’s nothing I can do about it. I can’t change it, I can’t fix it. So I think reading or watching any of it is pointless. Of course, people have a right to their opinions. But it doesn’t affect the show, it has no impact on how the series continues or anything.”
She also had a message for those who hate the series: “You don’t have to watch it. If you hate it that much, we’ve got the games. You can play them again. If you want to watch, I hope you enjoy it.”
Neil Druckmann, one of the creators of the show, announced that he will not be involved in writing scripts for the third season with HBO. He co-wrote the series with Craig Mazin, the writer of Chernobyl. The first season aired in 2023 and earned 24 Primetime Emmy nominations. The second season premiered in early 2025, and in April HBO officially greenlit production for the third season.
Ramsey has been nominated for the Emmy Award for Best Lead Actress, while Pedro Pascal is nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
